Tips for Sumo Japanese Grill

Try somewhere else. Been there a few times - nothing special. Wife wanted to try it again on our anniversary last night. When we checked in there was a group with 3 small children lounging around between the door and the hostess station. After we worked our way around them, I told the hostess we were 2 for dinner and we preferred not to be seated with the children. She gave me the big frown and said that would be a problem unless we were willing to wait over an hour. This was Monday evening at 6:30 and they were not busy. We went to Sal's and had a great dinner all by ourselves. Walked in, were seated , and ordered dinner. I have to assume Sumo's did not want us to return as it seemed not bother them at all that we left. Try Sal's, great food, better sevice, and they want you as a customer.

not worth the hype if you do get seated. Let me start by saying have ate there at least 10 times beforethe food was always ok but always had to wait a little longer than the time we were told so we knew that going in.

. We went there last night and we had called on monday to say we were haveing a large party for reservations at 7pm. they told us that would be great please try and have everyone arrive 30 min. early to check in and tell them hen we were all there. We did all ariv at 6.30 and told the receptinest that we were all there she said that it would be 30-40 min. the place was a mad house with people and we were wondering how all these people had made reservations and how they were going to get them all seated if they all had made the same reservations we had. KNOWING IT TAKES AT THE MIN.OF 45 MIN FOR THEM TO COOK AT YOUR TABLE! Well they CANT. after 1 hr. we asked them and they said it would be just another 30 . min. well after 2 1/2 hours of waiting half of our party gave up. that was us. we had made resevations for a 10 pm movie knowing we would have plenty of time to make that if we ate at even 8.pm. when we leftt he manager would not even talk to anyone he was just letting the girls up front take the complaints from everyone and let me say the were getting hammered with complaints. when I asked to see him she told us he was busy and said in a very iratated voice asking (what do you want us as a resurant to do?) Well lets see YOU TAKE THE RESERVATIONS AND KNOW HOW LONG IT TAKES EACH TABLE TO ROTATE. MAYBE NOT OVER BOOK YOUR RESERVATIONS BY AT LEAST TWICE AS MANY PEOPLE! Let me say will never go back and recomend KOBE steak house or OSAKA. When they take reservations you are seated at that time! AFTER WE LEFT THE REST OF OUR PARTY STILL WAITED TILL 9.15. THAT WAS WHEN THEY WERE SEATED.

Oh now they did bring up free mini eggrolls once every hour.24 for about 80 people waiting.

FOOD IS THE SAME AS THE ABOVE MENTIONED AND DONT HAVE TO WAIT 3 HRS. WITH NO PLACE TO SET.

VERY poorly managed and attitude that says if you dont like it so what.

Great dining experience. This was our first visit to the Sumo Japanese Grill since we live an hour and a half away, and it was worth the trip!

Let's start with Ling, our hostess and server. She was very welcoming and extremely helpful with explaining what was on the menu. She was attentive but did not hover and refilled our tea without being prompted.

The sushi, tempura and seaweed salad were all delicious and very fresh.

We will definitely be back again and again!

Best Japanese hotel i ever visited. I am very happy to say, food, ambience, lighting everything is just too perfect.

Most important thing about the restaurant is, chef cooks everything in front of you, which amazes me the most.

Few recommended dishes,

1) Chicken Volcano (Spicy)

2) Lobster and chicken

3) Garlic fried rice.

I will say this is must visit restaurant in Wichita, Kansas.

Not bad on the sushi and food but the prices are a premium. Service isn't any better than anywhere else, but the prices are the highest in the area. Nice building and descent sushi. .

Not bad for middle of the US. I came in with very low expectations, but was pleasantly surprised. Sure, the place was overpriced and the sushi not the best. But hey, you're in Kansas! The rolls indeed tasted premade and the sashimi was not super tasty. The restaurant was not bad though, worth it to get a taste of sushi while away from home. How many nights in a row can you eat steak?

Favorite Place To Eat!!! Kudos to Sumo's!!!. If you haven't tried Sumo you are missing out!! When my kids are given the choice they always chose Sumo. The entertainment is awesome and the food is out of this world. Everyone that I have ever suggested this place to has nothing but great things to say about Sumo. The staff is friendly and the place is very clean. I always suggest RSVP as they are very busy do to how Great they are. It is well worth the money you pay for the food. I suggest everyone go try it atleast once. ENJOY!!! :)

Dissapointed place for real gourmet. I totally agree with the second reveiw. I'm Japanese and I knew lots of excelent Japanese restaurants all over the US. Because I"ve been in Florida, Texas, California. But here is not the place. My wife(American) and I just moved from California one month ago, and Today was my wife's birthday. My wife like so much Sushi, so we went to there. Sushi was awful. I didn't expect good quality due to location(middle of US, very difficult to get fresh fish). But I didn't expect that much bad!!! We never come back there. There's not Japanese restaurant. Shame on you!!!

NOT AS GREAT AS THE HYPE. I HEARD NOTHING BUT WONDERFUL THINGS ABOUT SUMO, BUT MY EXPERIENCE WAS DISAPPOINTING. THE GRILL COOK WAS GREAT, AND SERVICE WAS GOOD, BUT I FOUND IT TO BE A LITTLE TO EXPENSIVE. IT WAS MY HUSBANDS BIRTHDAY AND THEY CHARGED US $7 FOR A PEICE OF CHEESECAKE! THE SUSHI, WHICH WAS SUPPOSED TO BE OUTSTANDING, WAS NOT THE BEST I HAD EVER HAD, AND IT CAME VERY FAST WHICH MADE ME FEEL SOME OF IT WAS ALREADY MADE. UNLESS YOU ARE GOING FOR SUSHI, I WOULD RECCOMEND KOBE'S STEAKHOUSE OVER SUMO.

Best Japanese. Of all the Tappanyaki grills in the city, this one knows how to cook with flavour. The other restaurants may have a more appealing look, but I would rather have better tasting food, than the ambience. Reservations are highly recommended and they have a lunch menu as well.
